EASTERN EXTERIOR WALL SYSTEMS OVERVIEW
Eastern Exterior Wall Systems (EEWS) designs, fabricates and installs exterior walls on buildings throughout the Middle-Atlantic Region. EEWS is one of two construction operating companies that is owned by Marcon Enterprises, a third-generation family owned and operated holding company, based in Allentown, PA. Effective January 2025, all EEWS employees will work out of a new plant in Allentown, PA.
DIRECTOR OF DESIGN & DRAFTING POSITION
The position is responsible for successful personnel performance and timely information output of the entire Design and Drafting group (DD), including building modeling, EEWS product design, shop drawings, panel sketches, details, and schedules of product components. DD services and information output are provided to internal customers such as manufacturing, sales, and project management, and external Construction Managers/Architects/Wall Consultants. This includes coordination with engineering department to ensure that the proper information is provided to keep the designers/drafters on schedule.
The position is also responsible for researching the best available hardware and software technology and use processes available and integrating into EEWS’s operating systems and procedures with the approval of senior management.
The Director is part of the EEWS management team and reports directly to the company President and has 9 direct reports. The goal is to have the Director start by January 15, 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Personnel Management
- Actively manage the day-to-day performance of DD personnel to optimize output consistent with the Workflow plan.
- Nurture harmony and cohesiveness within DD to foster a collaborative team-oriented environment.
- Develop a training program to continually develop the capability and skill of DD personnel.
- Continually seek new talent to add to the staff.
Design & Drafting Production
- Manage the output status of each member of the DD group, focused specifically on quality, consistency, and timeliness. Reorganize, assign, monitor, and adjust as may be necessary.
- Develop and implement a daily output productivity report that is coordinated and integrated into the Director of Manufacturing’s Master Production Plan.
- Develop standard drawing/sketch formats and procedures to assure consistent output from each DD person and continually improve production efficiency.
- If required to meet output obligations, personally work on models, shop drawings, or panel sketches.
Design & Drafting Operations
- Work closely with Project Management, Engineering, and Manufacturing to create an integrated output plan required for each EEWS project.
- Proactively seek to integrate best EEWS manufacturing practices into DD output and standards.
- Implement new procedures to improve efficiency and quality of our products and services.
- Identify new technologies, software, methods, and processes that improve the efficiency and accuracy of DD.
- Attend and participate in internal and external meetings as required.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading a team of design and/or drafting professionals.
- Working within an environment that requires integration between design/drafting and other functional areas of the business.
- A four-year degree in engineering, architecture, construction technology, or equivalent preferred.
- A minimum of eight years’ hands-on design and detailing experience using Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, exterior wall systems preferred.
- Understanding of architectural or structural drawings and window, curtain wall, louver, steel, or concrete shop drawings, required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to be a creative thinker and devise clever solutions to complex problems.
- Able to train and coach others.
- Organized, detail orientated and able to follow verbal and written instruction with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to represent the Company professionally, ethically and accurately.
